My experiments in the sculpture open studio at Gage Georgetown are ongoing. Previously I’ve drawn the sculptors, the sculptors’ dogs, and, sometimes, the model. The challenge in drawing the model in the sculpture studio is that every 5 minutes the model stand is rotated, same pose, new view.
With the stand going through four quarter-turns every twenty minutes, turned an additional eighth of a turn for the alternating twenty-minutes sessions… wouldn’t it be possible to work on eight drawings concurrently, as the stand will return to the same pose for 5 minutes every 40 minutes?
So that’s what I did. These eight drawings of model Christina were made over two 3-hour sessions, same pose, working on each drawing for an average of 35 minutes total. The info for each is “Christina, 1.22 and 1.29.25, view(s) I-VIII”, graphite, 18 x 24.
The experiment was successful enough to try again, this time with a pose that will last longer than just the two sessions. Given my schedule I will likely be able to work on these drawings of model Melia for another few sessions. I am sharing for each of these 8 drawings both the first day and the second day version. As I continue to work on these I’ll continue to share the progress. The info for each is “Melia, 1.24, 2.7… view I-VIII”, graphite, 18 x 24”.
